Paula Steindl

Paula Steindl emerged as a public artist in 2022 after experimenting with ceramics during her time at Burggasse98, a design studio located in Vienna, Austria. Her exposure to sculpting has been able to ground her, a shelter from her lifestyle in Vienna, which has been exciting, but gave rise to bouts of depression. Paula now creates art when authenticity and honesty flows around her. She consciously surrounds herself with this energy and finds herself attracted to those who allow her to be true her true self. Between a bustling social life and the sanctity of her personal space, she has created intentional balance. In this state, she finds simple pleasures in the prospect of fresh clay, where she can transpose her design and enjoy the tactile feeling of hand to material as she molds her work. Her sculptures serve no purpose other than to be visually and tactilely appealing for others, just as they are to herself.

Her current take on the Viennese artistic scene is that overall it tends to be boring and superficial, clearly male-dominated and lacking diversity. As an emerging artist in Vienna, she finds hope, solace, and inspiration from the artists she can relate to, those who aren’t driven by status or monetary incentive. Artwork that is most captivating to her are those that she must inspect and examine, pieces that are perplexing and are begging to be touched. When her vision is clear, it is easier for her to accept the art she has created. The art she creates is organic, mirroring her connection to nature and her tendency for sensory stimulation. She feels gratification for her pieces.

Paula sets her sights on being a full time freelancer and has plans for future projects that will be larger and more intricate, staying true to her signature structural variety and natural form. Her pieces are meant to live in any environment; amongst nature, in a cityscape, in a modern flat, in a quirky home. It is meant to fit where the owner can appreciate its form.
