Theodore Musa
Theodore Musa uses art, product, and packaging all unified through tight curation and experimental design
Theodore Musa acts as an artist collective, showcasing projects, products, events, and galleries - all conceptualized through an organization that intentionally uses their platform to influence a shift on the observer’s perspective. The Theodore Musa team is an alliance, linked by their willingness to never settle. Everything created by this team pushes the boundaries of what the general public has learned to become familiar with - where innovation and expression may be lacking, an opportunity exists for the Theodore Musa team to provide insight and expansion.
Pulling from the world around them, Theodore Musa uses progressive thinking and innovative techniques to push the boundaries of what the general public has learned to become familiar with. The brand’s debut, dubbed ‘Season 1,’ included a line of conceptual packaging for cannabis and psychedelics, paying homage to activities growing traction throughout the world and becoming more widely accepted for its physical and mental health benefits. Merchandise included a rolling tray, apothecary jar, a multifunctional grinder, and an ashtray, with designs inspired by street signs and utilitarian graphics and objects. Items were featured in an immersive galley and opened to the public as an ongoing art show. The intention was that “through experiential events and group art shows, [they] wanted to be a brand that exists far beyond product offering.”
Nothing Theordore Musa does is confined to a singular movement or topic- rather Theodore Musa continues to have viewer question their reality, their environment, and authority all while becoming perplexed and engaged with what they are seeing and experiencing. Season 2 was about toys, imitating the pungent plastics, simplistic smooth design, and highly saturated color popularized in the late 80's throughout the early 2000's, incurring feelings of nostalgia but also focusing on the collectability of items rather than the disposability of plastic objects characteristic of a modern capitalist society.
Theodore Musa continues to move down the path of authenticity. In their next show the objective is to affect all aspects of the viewer’s psyche. Season 3 is a broadened scope to the state of the future, an ever-present thought in the psyche of the general populous. The show specifically explores the uncertainty of what will happen to the human population in the future, reflecting on the possibilities of both utopian and dystopian futures and will challenge viewers to consider the implications of their choices today. The object is to spark conversation around our contemporary practices while reminding viewers that it’s never too late to fight for a more just and sustainable future.
Engaging with the flux of ever-changing experiences, emotions, and mental states are the fuel that drives their creativity. Capturing those moments and manifesting that state of being into a physical form, is what carries the team and affirms their creative process. The purpose is to roam freely with every endeavor. Simply put, Theodore Musa wants to be at the forefront of new ingenious and original design and lead the way for inventive and thought provoking experiences.
